2020 Innovation Fund

The Canada Foundation for Innovation launched a Call for Proposals for the Innovation Fund in early 2019.

The CFI is a federal program with a goal to strengthen the capacity of Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals, and other not-for-profit institutions to carry out world-class research and technology development. By investing in research infrastructure projects, the CFI supports research excellence and helps strengthen research training at institutions across Canada.

CFI’s Innovation Fund program is designed to assist researchers to the establish productive collaborations at the institutional, regional, national and international levels. Such collaborations will improve our ability to generate new ideas, insights and knowledge, as well as support the sustainability of the research infrastructure necessary to operate at the highest levels of research excellence.

UBC researchers are required to submit an internal Expression of Interest (EOI) before applying to the Innovation Fund. The EOI is mandatory for all projects in which UBC is to be the lead or a partner and for which the researcher is requesting funds from the UBC envelope. However, the EOI will not be used to select or deny submissions. The information you provide in the EOI assists the IPO to plan the next steps of the Innovation Fund proposal process, including recruiting reviewers for our internal panels. More details about the submission process will be available closer to the opening of the next call for proposals.

Prospective applicants to the Innovation Fund should pay particular attention to requirements for construction/renovation estimates as outlined by the UBC Facilities Planning Guide (CWL required).
