UBC Procedures for Attraction Candidates

The Institutional Programs Office supports new recruits to UBC to apply for infrastructure funding through the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

Attraction candidates must have been appointed to UBC within 24 months of the CFI submission deadline.

1. Get Ready to Apply

Forward a copy of your recommendation/appointment letter to the IPO. Review the guidelines and attend an information session.

2. Submit your Internal Notice of Intent

Complete the Notice of Intent on the IPO site in accordance with the internal application timeline.

Note: Researchers using CWL guest accounts will not be able to access CWL protected pages. Please contact ipo.admin@ubc.ca (Vancouver campus) or pierre.rondier@ubc.ca (Okanagan campus) to request access to protected pages on the IPO website.

3. Begin CFI JELF Application

To begin your application to JELF, you must first create a CAMS account and complete all of the project modules for the JELF proposal. The example grants database (CWL Required) may be helpful as you prepare your application.

4. Submit CFI Application to IPO

Email a PDF of your CFI application (including all project modules) before the internal deadline. The IPO will arrange for it to receive internal peer review and feedback.

5. Begin BCKDF Application Process

Review the guidelines and complete the application for BCKDF matching funds (step 1 application) after you've submitted your CFI application to the Institutional Programs Office.

6. Finalize your CFI JELF Application

If you are selected to move forward, you will work with IPO staff to finalize the application. When the application is finalized, the IPO will manage the rest of the submission process. Projects that require more time to develop will be deferred to the next CFI JELF submission deadline.

UBC Okanagan researchers should be in contact with the Okanagan Office of Research Services throughout the CFI application process for additional procedures specific to the Okanagan campus.
